WPT Bio: Sixth-Place Finisher Shawn Cunix ($168,970)

Level 25: 50,000-100,000, 10,000 ante

A technical glitch earlier today kept us from posting bios on the players. Here's some background information on sixth-place finisher Shawn Cunix:

Shawn Cunix

Started Play With 3,670,000 in chips
2nd in chips, 46 big blinds

Shawn Cunix is a 36-year-old entrepreneur from Columbus, Ohio. Cunix is the only player at this final table who doesn't consider himself to be a professional poker player, though he has nearly half-a-million dollars in live tournament cashes. (And that number will grow tonight -- he starts the final table second in chips.)

As a part-time player, this is Cunix's third cash on the World Poker Tour, and they've all come in the past year. Cunix considers his biggest poker accomplishment (so far) to be a victory in a $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em event here at Bellagio in April, 2008 ($127,370).

Cunix is married with three children, and his wife, Chris, was rooting him on from the stands with a poster that his kids made.

Biggest Live Tournament Cash:  $193,800 (2nd, 2008 Borgata Poker Open, $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em)

Hand #29: Shawn Cunix Eliminated in 6th Place ($168,970)

Level 25: 50,000-100,000, 10,000 ante

Shawn Cunix moves all in from the cutoff for 550,000, and Craig Crivello calls from the big blind with AdiamondQclub. Cunix shows 8heart6heart, and he'll need to improve to stay alive.

The flop comes Kdiamond10diamond6diamond, which is definitely an action flop. Cunix has a pair of sixes, while Crivello has a gutshot straight draw with a diamond flush draw and two overlords.

The turn card is the 3heart, and Cunix needs to avoid aces, queens, jacks, and all the diamonds to stay alive.

The river card is the Jdiamond, and Craig Crivello completes his diamond flush to win the pot. Shawn Cunix is eliminated in sixth place, earning $168,970.

Hand #16: Tommy Vedes Doubles Through Shawn Cunix

Level 24: 40,000-80,000, 5,000 ante

Craig Crivello raises under the gun to 240,000, Freddy Deeb calls from middle position, Shawn Cunix calls from the button, Tommy Vedes calls from the small blind, and Jason Lavallee calls from the big blind.

The flop comes KdiamondQclub6heart, everyone checks to Cunix on the button, who bets 720,000, and Vedes moves all in for 1,325,000. Everyone folds to Cunix, who quickly calls with 6club6diamond for a set of sixes. Vedes shows KheartQdiamond for two pair (kings and queens), and he'll need to catch another king or a queen to stay alive.

The turn card is -- the Kclub

Tommy Vedes turns a higher full house (kings full of queens) and his friends on the rail (including Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi and Glen Chorny) explode into cheers and high fives. But it's not over yet, because Cunix is drawing to a single out -- the case six -- to eliminate Vedes here.

The river card is the 5club, and Tommy Vedes wins the pot to double up.
